Reiki is usually translated as "universal or universal life energy", which - according to the Reiki teaching - should be present in everything that lives. It is the basis of Reiki treatment and training.

The concept of Reiki is not plausible from a scientific point of view. So far, none of the numerous studies have been able to prove Reiki healing. In the clinical studies, no effect was found or significant methodological weaknesses were found.

Reiki is the esoteric version of healing by laying on of hands (and a special symbol work). This is intended to influence health. The healer uses various techniques of laying on of hands. Reiki calls this "energy work". Reiki also offers the possibility of reiki self-treatment, as well as the treatment of another person. At the beginning of the Reiki treatment, the practitioner ensures good blood circulation in his hands, which should promote energy transfer from the healer to the patient. According to Usui Mikao, the founder and inventor of Reiki, the subsequent laying on of hands is to take place in a specific sequence on different body regions, in which certain "chakras" should be taken into account. Chakras are said to provide the body with energy.

In Japan, the country of origin, Reiki is taught in different versions (systems). In the West, the number of "initiations" courses that are subject to a fee varies. Every Reiki teacher handles it differently.

Reiki was founded by the Japanese Mikao Usui: Mikao Usui opened the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo in 1921. Nothing is known about the origin of the Reiki teaching. The epitaph of the founder reveals that Mikao Usui learned the knowledge of Reiki through a vision during a 21-day fasting cure on Mount Kurama, north of Kyoto. After the Reiki teaching, Reiki is passed on from the teacher (also master) to the student. Usui trained, among others, Chujiro Hayashi, who in turn trained the American Mary McFadyen, who brought Reiki to Europe in 1981.

Reiki training (initiation)

The Reiki training takes place in successive stages, which are called degrees. Each training level starts with an "initiation", a ritual with which the teacher should enable the student to give Reiki or use the Reiki symbols.

In Reiki teaching, a channel for energy is opened with every initiation. Without the initiation no channel would be open and the treatment would have no effect.

There are usually three to four grades up to the Reiki teacher training:

First degree: opening of the Reiki channel
Second degree: introduction of three Reiki symbols
Third degree (master degree): initiation to the "master symbol"
Fourth degree (teacher level): enables to initiate other people.

With many Reiki teachers, the master's degree and teacher level can be acquired together. One to four initiations are given for each Reiki degree.

Reiki users believe that, like other forms of energy work, they do not work with their own energy. After being initiated by a teacher, they see themselves as a channel for the Reiki energy. Since they don't work with their own energy, they can also treat themselves. In their opinion, animals and plants can also be treated.

The aim of Reiki is the physical, mental, mental and social health, the strengthening of the self-healing powers and the overcoming of illnesses.

Reiki is not meant to replace a doctor, medication or prescribed therapy. Reiki should always be used alongside any medical or alternative medical treatment.

Reiki users believe that the energy - the Reiki - flows to the treatment where it is needed and therefore a diagnosis is not necessary for the treatment. The treatment does not make a diagnosis either.

The Reiki Techniques

Reiki treatment is usually done by laying on the hands. Other Reiki users prefer to keep their hands a few centimeters above the patient's body. Mikao Usui has made various records of Reiki treatment. Afterwards, the Reiki treatment can also be done by massaging, tapping, petting, etc. the diseased part of the body.

Chujiro Hayashi "developed" 12 hand positions for a full treatment, which is supplemented according to the needs of the person being treated. This treatment regimen is still common today. The practitioner can change it according to his experience and intuition. There is also a short treatment that can also be carried out while sitting.

Reiki costs

There is no fixed fee schedule for Reiki treatment or training. Certificates of Reiki training can also be bought on the Internet for little money, for example here → Reiki certificates or the → doctorate in Reiki.

The cost of a Reiki treatment is in a favorable case that of a massage, but sometimes it goes far beyond that. Due to the fact that they are not proven to be effective in Germany, they are not covered by health insurance.

The cost of the training, which usually takes place in weekend seminars, can vary widely. The training and initiation regulations are hierarchical.

Conclusion

The whole Reiki system is inconsistent. Neither any energy transfer nor a healing effect can be proven. Only the placebo effect is addressed, so those who believe in it will be cured, but this can also be a sugar tablet for one dollar.

Reiki is often misunderstood as a religion. ∎
